Although the vaccine against Covid-19 is one of the most talked about issues of the moment, it has not yet arrived in Brazil, for now we only have agreements for its production in the country. Therefore, we must continue taking all possible care such as: maintaining distance, wearing masks and sanitizing hands and objects. The fight isn’t over yet.

“We set goals [with priority groups] for vaccination, because we do not have a vaccine to vaccinate the entire Brazilian population. In addition, the studies do not foresee working with all age groups initially, so we would not even have how to vaccinate the entire Brazilian population”, according to the coordinator of the National Immunization Program, Francieli Fontana

But what is the current situation of Corona Virus in Brazil?

Graph Covid-19 in BrazilAfter a slight fall from August to the beginning of November, cases only increase in Brazil. It has been recorded that the average number of deaths by Covid-19 is the highest since October 11.

Stay alert: who has already been infected, can be again

Even though it is rare, cases of people who contracted the virus a second time have been recorded, even with death.Anyone who has caught the virus, can still contract it or transmit it to other people, do not make this carelessness with you or others. COVID-19 affects different people in different ways. Most infected people will experience mild to moderate symptoms of the disease and will not need to be hospitalized.

Symptoms according to the Ministry of Health:

  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Runny
  • Sore throat
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Loss of smell (anosmia)
  • Taste disorder (ageusia)
  • Gastrointestinal disorders (nausea/vomiting/diarrhoea)
  • Tiredness (asthena)
  • Decreased appetite (hyporexia)
  • Dyspnea (shortness of breath)

Remembering: The virus that causes COVID-19 spreads mainly through droplets produced when an infected person coughs, sneezes or exhales. These drops are too heavy to remain in the air and quickly deposit on the ground or surface.If you are near a person with COVID-19, you may be infected by inlarring the virus or touching a contaminated surface and then rubbing your hands in the eyes, nose or mouth.Therefore, the maintenance of all safety and hygiene measures is essential and we cannot fail to prevent ourselves.

PPI’s – Protection for those who are at the forefront of this fight.

The use of Personal Protective Equipment has never been more fundamental than at this time in which we live, considering the great contamination capacity of Covid 19. Mask, apron, eye protector or face protector, and procedure gloves are indispensable items for all doctors and health agents who are working incessantly in the fight against coronavirus.(Read also: Coronavirus: Care that can save lives)

Care for the general public:

  • Wear a mask and gloves every time you leave the house;
  • Avoid contact of the hands with the face;
  • Avoid environments with crowding of people;
  • Keep the distance of at least 1.5 meters from other people;
  • Take care of food to maintain and strengthen immunity;
  • If you’re part of the risk group, stay home.

It is also necessary to remember that even those who are not in the risk group need to follow all prevention measures, it was found that 25% of the fatal victims of COVID-19, since the first record of the disease in the country, were under 60 years old and did not have pre-existing diseases that aggravate symptoms.This means that a quarter of those killed by coronavirus across the country were out of the disease risk group.(Read more in: Coronavirus: Safe resumption of social activities and Danger also for those who are not in the risk group

But don’t lose hope!
“We are talking to the laboratories and following the studies. That way we will design vaccination in the country.” “Both in Brazil and in all countries, immunisings, vaccines are being studied. No vaccine is registered in any health agency in the world,” said Executive Secretary Elcio Franco.

Four laboratories are testing possible vaccines in Brazil: Sinovac, Oxford and AstraZeneca, Janssen and BioNTech/Pfizer. The first two already have some agreement to supply doses.
